Behind The Brand
Dr. Simone Xavier and Rene Xavier Filho, a scientist and engineer set on changing the beauty industry, launched Sigma Beauty with a single brush set and a lot of passion. They used social media to spread the word about our brand, science to create the highest-quality products and were inspired by you with each step along the way. They continue to lead the brand in developing improved beauty for you every day.
Dr. Simone Xavier came to the U.S. 19 years ago to complete a Ph.D. in molecular bacteriology and infectious diseases at the University of Minnesota. While studying and working at the university, she and her husband, Rene Xavier, made frequent trips to Brazil to visit friends and family. They requested they bring along items that weren’t available in Brazil–many of these requests were beauty products like makeup and brushes. They saw an opportunity to offer these products to the Brazilian market online. Once Rene saw the makeup brushes that Brazilian customers wanted, he realized they could produce higher quality brushes–for a better price.
From there, Dr. Xavier went to YouTube and started to research the brushes beauty bloggers used most for essential functions and the duo created the first Sigma Beauty brush set. Ten years later, Sigma is the authority in quality makeup brushes worldwide and currently employing a team that is 90% female.
